Once you've placed your order, you'll receive an email to get your prescription Zeiss inserts all sorted. We'll need a couple more details from you, which we'll send to the Zeiss lab and then have your glazed insert ready for you in around 7-10 working days.

Our prescription service in partnership with Zeiss, gives you the Zeiss experience through your optical lens, leaving you to experience the best view from your next adventure.

Yes, you are buying a pair of Alleycat sunglasses including an optical clip + prescription from Zeiss

After you complete your purchase, you will receive an email from Melon with a no-hassle form, where you can add your prescription information. As soon as you complete the form, our team will be automatically notified and your prescription information will be submitted to Zeiss for production of your lenses.

Absolutely! If you’d prefer to do things with your regular optician rather than have Zeiss fit your lenses, you can buy the Alleycat optical clip only here and buy a pair of Alleycat sunglasses separately here

Whilst we can provide a refund or exchange for your Alleycat sunglasses if for instance if they do not fit you well, we are unable to offer returns for the prescription optical clip itself as the prescription is custom made for you

The Alleycat has easily interchangeable lenses and comes with a Zeiss low light lens included. If you want to grab some extra lenses, you can do so here and if you need just an extra low light lens, you can grab it here. You can see how to change your Alleycat lens here

The Alleycat lens ratings are as follows:

Low-Light = S0 (86% VLT)
Amber = S2 (29% VLT)
Violet Chrome = S2 (25% VLT)
Red Chrome = S2 (28% VLT)
Silver Chrome = S3 (19% VLT)
Smoke = S3 (19% VLT)
Photochromic = S0 – S3 (85% – 18% VLT)

The higher the category (and lower the VLT %) the more light the lens blocks, so an S2 lens is often good for if you’re riding in varying light conditions, whilst an S3 lens will perform best if you’re mostly riding bright conditions. Our photochromic lenses are not made by Zeiss, as Zeiss currently doesn’t make a photochromic lens in a shield option. However, they are from one of the worlds leading photochromic lens makers and the optical quality is also fantastic.

The main difference is in the lens technology. The Alleycat trail lens optimises for orange/green environments whereas the snow lens filters out more blue light, as there is a predominance of this in snowy environments. As a result, you’ll get much better definition, contrast and depth perception when in the snow. Also, the snow version doesn’t come with a low-light lens included, which the Alleycat Trail version does.
